Do Home Buyers Want Green Homes?

A recent Yahoo Real Estate survey showed that home ownership is still an integral part of the American dream.  But is owning a home with green, energy efficient features part of this home buyers dream?  According to Yahoo's Home Horizons 2012 survey, yes.  Half of the study's respondents stated that green or energy efficient features are desired for their dream home.

It may come as a surprise that green or energy efficient features topped the list of past favorites which include building a custom home, water views and mountain views.  The great thing about owning a home at Squam River Landing is that it can provide you with all four features; an energy efficient (semi-custom) home with water views, mountain views or both!

When it comes to building homes, the term 'green' has become synonymous with higher costs.  This is one of the most common hurdles that green homes struggle to overcome.  As Sarah Saranka highlights in the Yahoo article, new types of green homes are being developed which reduce energy consumption in cost-effective ways.  Although these new styles of green homes are great for the average home buyer, they don't get the notoriety because they're not LEED Platinum projects.
